Supporting Piping System of the Drilling Pump

1. Suction Manifold: Connects the mud tank and the suction port of the drilling pump. It requires a large line diameter and low flow resistance. If the suction line resistance is too high, it will cause insufficient fluid intake by the pump, producing cavitation, severe pump vibration, and insufficient flow rate and pressure.

2. Discharge High-Pressure Manifold: Made of thick-wall high-pressure alloy steel pipe, it delivers the high-pressure drilling fluid to the kelly hose and swivel. All high-pressure manifold components must undergo pressure testing to prevent high-pressure bursts.

3. Air chamber (pulsation dampener), safety valve, and pressure gauge assembly: All installed on the discharge manifold, monitoring pump pressure changes in real time. The driller's console can read the drilling pump pressure parameters in real time. Pump pressure is one of the most important drilling parameters — a sudden rise or drop in pump pressure often indicates abnormal downhole conditions, such as plugged bit nozzles, drill string washouts, or wellbore collapse.
